Blaues Granny Square-Kissen

 

Ach du je, habe ich meinen Blog aber vernachlässigt! Über einen Monat ist der letzte Beitrag her ... Es gab nicht mal einen richtigen Grund dafür, nur eine Kombination aus Zeitmangel und Unlust, und irgendwie war selbst dann, wenn ich Zeit hatte, irgend was anderes immer wichtiger. Aber jetzt habe ich beschlossen, dass es so nicht weitergehen kann. Und somit melde ich mich mal zurück.

In der Zwischenzeit hat sich natürlich auch einiges zum Zeigen angesammelt, aber das meiste schlummert noch auf meiner Kamera vor sich hin und wartet darauf, bearbeitet zu werden. Also fange ich mal mit einem Stück an, das schon ein Weilchen länger darauf wartet, hier auf dem Blog landen zu dürfen: Mein zweites Granny Square-Kissen.

Oh my, I've really neglected my poor blog terribly! The last entry was over a month ago ... There even wasn't a real reason, only a combination of little time and no energy, and even when I had time, there was always something more important to do. But now I decided that it can't go on like this any longer. And so I'm back!

In the meantime, of course a lot has accumulated that I want to show but most of it is still biding its time in my camera, waiting to be edited. So I'll start with something that has been waiting to end up on the blog for quite some time: My second granny square cushion.

Während das erste ja sehr bunt war, kommt das zweite etwas reduzierter und Ton in Ton daher, in einer meiner Lieblingsfarben. Jahrelang waren die meisten meiner Kleidungsstücke in allen möglichen Blautönen, und erst in letzter Zeit hat sich das davon etwas wegbewegt, zu mehr Rot, Grün und Gelb. Trotzdem wird Blau wohl immer eine der Farben bleiben, die einfach immer gehen, schon, weil sie in meinen Augen besser kombinierbar ist als zum Beispiel knalliges Rot oder Gelb.

While the first was very colourful, this one is a bit simpler and keeping to one colour mostly, in one of my favourite colours. For many years, most of my clothes were in lots of shades of blue, and only lately I've been drifting more towards red, green and yellow. Nevertheless, I think blue will always remain one of the colours I'll always like, if only because I find it easier to combine than a bright red or yellow, for example.

Auf der Rückseite habe ich mir mal wieder etwas Patchwork nicht nehmen lassen, diesmal ein großes Pinwheel aus zwei verschiedenen Stöffchen mit Weiß. Verschlossen wird das Kissen auch wieder mit einer Knopfleiste, die in den Rand der Grannys einhakt.

Leider habe ich beim Nähen der Hülle etwas übersehen, dass das Inlet für mein erstes Kissen ein altes, schon sehr plattgesessenes Teil war - für dieses habe ich nun ein ganz nagelneues Inlet erworben, und prompt ist die Hülle jetzt sehr straff. Passt aber noch, und solange die Knöpfe halten, ist alles okay :-).

On the back I couldn't help it but do some piecing, this time a huge pinwheel made of two different fabrics and a white solid. The cushion is again closed with a row of buttons hooking into the edge of the granny squares.

Unfortunately I've used the first cushion as a model when sewing the sleeve and forgot that the inlet is a very old one that's rather deflated - for this one I bought a brand new one, so the sleeve is now very well stuffed. But it still fits, and as long as the buttons aren't torn off, everything's fine :).

Um das Vorderteil auf die richtige Größe zu bringen, habe ich es noch mit ein paar zusätzlichen Reihen umhäkelt. Das einzige, was mich ein bisschen ärgert, ist, dass ich die Eck-Grannys nicht über Kreuz gesetzt habe, sondern je eine Farbe auf einer Seite habe. Aber das ist nur ein Detail, das wahrscheinlich eh niemand außer mir bemerkt. Im Großen und Ganzen finde ich das Kissen echt schön. Und so langsam wird mein Bett richtig kuschlig :-). Oder na ja, wäre es, wenn das Kissen nicht mittlerweile ins Wohnzimmer gewandert wäre und dort als Sitzkissen missbraucht würde. Als eines der nächsten Projekte steht darum ein "richtiges" Sitzkissen auf dem Plan! Das allerdings wahrscheinlich nicht mit Granny Squares :-) ...

Habt ihr eure Kissen lieber ganz bunt oder eher schlicht? Ich mag ja beides gern und kann mich nicht entscheiden, welches mir besser gefällt!

To get the granny squares to the right size, I crocheted a few additional rows around it. The only thing I could have done better is that the corner granny squares are not diagonal but one colour on each side. But that's only a detail no one but me probably would notice. Overall the cushion turned out quite pretty. And my bed is becoming really cozy :-). Or it would be if the cushion hadn't wandered to the living room by now where it's being used in lieu of a pouf. So one of the next projects will be a "real" pouf! That won't be made up of granny squares, though :-) ...

Do you prefer your cushions to be very colourful or rather understated? I love both and really can't decide which of the cushions I like best!

[Gehäkelt und gestrickt] Granny Square-Kissen

Na, ich hoffe, ihr habt inzwischen alle Weihnachtsvorbereitungen abgeschlossen? Ich sitze gerade hier und drücke mich vor den letzten davon - Geschenke einpacken, das ist eindeutig nicht meine liebste Beschäftigung. Immerhin habe ich davon abgesehen alles geschafft, was ich mir bis heute vorgenommen habe, das letzte Geschenk wurde gestern noch fertig, und meine Sachen sind gepackt, um nachher zu meinen Eltern zu fahren. Ich muss gestehen, Weihnachtsstimmung ist bei mir dieses Jahr nicht wirklich aufgekommen, aber trotzdem freue ich mich auf ein paar schöne Tage mit meiner Familie!

Vorher zeige ich euch aber etwas ganz Unweihnachtliches: Ein Granny Square-Kissen in schönen, frischen Farben.

So, I hope you've all finished your Christmas preparations now? I'm sitting here procrastinating on the last of them - wrapping presents definitely isn't my favourite pastime. At least I've finished everything else I wanted to do so far, the last present was finished yesterday, and I have packed my stuff to go to my parents later today. I have to admit that I'm not in much of a Christmas mood this year, but nevertheless I'm looking forward to a few days with my family!

But first, I've got something very un-Christmas-like to show to you: A granny square cushion in lovely fresh colours.

Vor einiger Zeit habe ich das Häkeln für mich wiederentdeckt - ich habe es als Kind im Handarbeitsunterricht gelernt, aber danach selten gemacht. Wenn ich Garn und Nadeln nicht zum Nähen benutzt habe, habe ich eher gestrickt (obwohl ich da auch selten gut darin war, meine Projekte zu Ende zu bringen ...). Nachdem ich aber auf einigen Blogs so schöne gehäkelte Sachen entdeckt habe, bekam ich Lust, es mal wieder zu probieren - und außerdem hatte ich noch einen ganzen Sack mit hübschem buntem Baumwollgarn, das mir meine Schwägerin mal überlassen hatte. Also habe ich, als ich im Sommer in den Urlaub fuhr, das Garn sowie eine Granny Square-Anleitung eingepackt. Granny Squares sollten für den Anfang ja keine zu große Herausforderung sein :) ... Und so habe ich bei jeder sich bietenden Gelegenheit (am Strand, beim Dünensingen, abends in meinem Pensionszimmer) drauf los gehäkelt.

Some time ago, I rediscovered crocheting - I had learned it in my crafting lessons at elementary school but used it rarely afterwards. If I don't use needles and yarn for sewing, I'd rather knitted than crocheted (though I never was very good at finishing stuff there, either). After seeing so pretty crocheted things on several blogs, though, I felt like giving it another try - and I also had a huge bag full of pretty colourful cotton yarn my sister-in-law had given me some time ago. So I took along the yarn and a granny square tutorial when I went on vacation in summer. Granny squares shouldn't be too difficult to start with :) ... And so I spent a lot of time on the beach, while singing or in the evening in my small room crocheting.

Zuerst hatte ich recht wahllos einfach von jeder Farbe mal einen Granny Square gehäkelt, aber irgendwas muss man mit den kleinen Dingern ja auch anfangen! Also kam mir die Idee, zuerst mal eine Kissenhülle damit zu machen, und da ich die kräftigen, klaren Grundfarben am schönsten fand, machte ich mit denen sowie dem hellen Grün ein paar mehr. Wie ihr seht, habe ich damit dann ein Nine Patch-Muster erstellt.

At first I rather indiscriminately crocheted a granny square of every colour, but there had to be something I could do with them! So I had the idea to do a cushion with them first, and since I found the bright, clear primary colour the most beautiful, I made some more with them and the light green. As you can see, I used them for a nine patch pattern.

Die Granny Squares habe ich dann auf eine Kissenhülle aufgenäht, die ich vorher gepatcht habe. Dabei wiederholen sich auf der Rückseite die Farben der Vorderseite ebenfalls im Nine Patch-Muster. Da ich mit nicht sicher war, ob die Granny Squares allein stabil genug sind, ist die Vorderseite auch aus Stoff, ein schlichtes Weiß, das nicht auffällt.

I then sewed them to a cushion sleeve I had pieced before. The backside repeats the colours of the front in a nine patch pattern as well. Since I wasn't quite sure if the granny squares alone would be firm enough, the front is also made from fabric beneath the squares, a plain white you can't really see if you don't know it's there.

Verschlossen wird das Ganze mit einer Knopfleiste, die in den Rand der Granny Squares greift.

Das Kissen ist jetzt ein schöner neuer Farbtupfer auf meinem Bett (das leider selten so schön ordentlich gemacht ist, hmpf). Meine Mutter fand zwar, dass Granny Squares doch unheimlich altmodisch sind, aber das denke ich nicht - mit klaren Farben und einem geradlinigen Design kann man sie durchaus auch modern gestalten!

Seit einiger Zeit liegt noch eine weitere Kissen-Vorderseite hier herum und wartet auf ihre Rückseite, diesmal ganz in Blautönen. Und ich habe noch ein paar Kissen-Inlets und Ideen - Möglichkeiten gibt es genug!

Was denkt ihr - Granny Squares yay oder nay?

The cushion now is a pretty new spot of colour on my bed (which is rarely made so tidily *cough*). My mom was of the opinion that granny squares are so old-fashined but I don't think so - with bright colours and a straightforward design, you can definitely give them a modern appearance!

For some time I've had another front for a cusion lying around waiting for a backside, this time all in blue. And I still have some cushions and ideas - there are more than enough options!
