Gegen verbrannte Finger: Ofenhandschuhe und Topflappen

Diese Sets aus Ofenhandschuhe und Topflappen waren Geschenke - das linke Set bekam eine gute Freundin zu Weihnachten (ja, immer noch Weihnachtsgeschenke! Das ist jetzt aber auch das letzte ;).), das rechte Set bekam eine Freundin im Zuge eines Memes. Kennt ihr das? Da postet man auf seinem Blog (nicht auf diesem hier, das war ein anderer), dass man fünf Leuten, die kommentieren, innerhalb eines Jahres etwas Persönliches, Selbstgemachtes schenkt. Diese wiederum posten das ebenfalls in ihrem Blog, also hat man im Gegenzug auch die Gelegenheit, ein paar selbstgemachte Geschenke abzustauben. Ich muss ja gestehen, dass das Jahr mittlerweile rum ist und dieses Geschenk das einzige ist, das ich in dieser Zeit fertig bekommen habe *hust*. Allerdings habe ich von den anderen, bei denen ich mich gemeldet habe, auch nichts bekommen, ich bin also nicht die einzige Schnarchnase :).

These sets of pot holders and oven gloves were presents - the left set was for a good friend for Christmas (yes, that's still a Christmas present in March! But this is the last one, I promise ;)), the right one was for another friend in the course of a meme. Do you know those memes? You post on your blog (which wasn't this one but a different one) that the first five people to comment will get a hand-made present made just for them within one year. The people commenting then have to post it on their blog so that you also get the chance to get some hand-made presents. I have to admit that the year is over by now and this present is the only one I finished in that time *cough*. On the other hand, I didn't get anything from the people where I commented, so I'm not the only slacker, at least ;).

Aus den selben Stoffen habe ich C., für dieses Set war, vor einigen Jahren mal eine Handtasche genäht. Sollte sie also das Bedürfnis haben, beim Kochen oder Backen eine Handtasche dabei zu haben, ist jetzt also sichergestellt, dass alle Accessoires perfekt aufeinander abgestimmt sind :).

Leider habe ich jetzt kaum noch was von den Stoffen übrig, sonst hätte ich ihr womöglich noch eine passende Schürze dazu genäht. Oder vielleicht auch nicht, ich saß nämlich auch so den Tag vor Weihnachten nur an der Nähmaschine. Aber ich finde, es hat sich gelohnt. Bei diesem Set bin ich sehr stolz auf die saubere Stepp-Arbeit, ich habe mir wirklich viel Mühe gegeben!

I once made a handbag for C. who received this set using the same fabrics. So if she feels like wearing a handbag while cooking or baking, her accessoires will be perfectly matched now ;).

Unfortunately I now have almost used up the fabrics, otherwise I might have also sewn a matching apron for her. Or maybe not, as I was sewing all day the day before Christmas Eve. But I think it was worth it. With this set, I'm very proud of the clean stitching, I really put a lot of effort in it!

S. arbeitet seit einiger Zeit in einem Bioladen und backt dafür auch vegane Kuchen, daher fand ich, dass sie einen schönen Ofenhandschuh und Topflappen sicher gebrauchen kann! Dazu passte ideal das Paprika-Schrägband, das ich letztes Jahr auf dem holländischen Stoffmarkt in Ludwigsburg gekauft hatte. Und grün musste das Set einfach sein, da Grün ihre Lieblingsfarbe ist. Nur das mit der "Tasche" auf der Rückseite des Topflappens hat nicht ganz so hingehauen, wie ich mir das vorgestellt habe ...

Übrigens bekam sie dazu, um das Ganze thematisch abzurunden, die veganen Kirsch-Brownies, die ich euch hier schon vorgestellt habe :).

S. has been working in a wholefood shop for a while now and also bakes vegan cakes for it, so I thought she would surely appreciate having a pretty oven glove and potholder! The bell pepper bias tape I bought last year on the Holland fabric market in Ludwigsburg was perfect for that. And the set just had to be green since that's her favourite colour. Only the "pocket" on the back of the potholder did not turn out quite the way I had imagined it ...

And to round it off thematically, she also got the vegan cherry brownies I've shown you here :).

Ich finde, Ofenhandschuhe und Topflappen sind tolle Geschenke, zum Beispiel auch als Housewarming Gift nach einem Umzug - sie sind schnell gemacht, wenn man einmal den Dreh raus hat, und sie bieten viele Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten. Ich habe da auch noch die eine oder andere Idee, mal sehen, ob ich die nicht mal umsetze ... Auch wenn ich gestehen muss, dass hier eigentlich keine große Topflappenknappheit herrscht ;).

I think oven gloves and potholders are great presents, for example also as a housewarming gift after a move - once you've found your groove, they are easy and fast to make, and they offer a lot of design choices. I still have a few ideas, we'll see if I realise some of them soon ... Even if I have to admit that we're not really suffering from a shortage of potholders here ;).

Eulenstulpen

Heute zeige ich euch mal wieder etwas von meinen Weihnachtsgeschenken vom letzten Jahr - ja, ein paar habe ich immer noch übrig ;).

Diese Eulenstulpen habe ich für M2 gestrickt. Es ist nicht immer einfach, Geschenke für sie zu finden - sie mag keinen Nippes und überflüssiges Zeug, also sind praktische Geschenke immer am besten. Aber sie liebt Eulen (und hat mich mit der Leidenschaft auch etwas angesteckt). Freilich sollte man es auch damit nicht übertreiben! Bei diesen Stulpen war ich mir aber sicher, dass sie ihr gefallen würden. Ich hatte mir Dezember 2012 (!) auf einer Bahnfahrt eine englische Ausgabe der Mollie Makes gekauft, deren Cover diese Stulpen zierte, und als M2 sie entdeckte, quietschte sie und sagte sofort, solche Stulpen wollte sie haben!

Today I'm showing you some more of my Christmas presents of last year - yes, there are still some I havent' shown you yet ;).

I knitted these owl wrist warmers for M2. It's not always easy finding presents for her - she doesn't like knick-knack and superfluous stuff, so practical things are always best. But she loves owls (and infected me with it a bit, too). Of course, you shouldn't go overboard with them, too! But with these wrist warmers, I was sure that she would like them. In December 2012 (!), I had bought the English Mollie Makes, with these wrist warmers on the cover, and when M2 saw them, she squeed and immediately said she wanted to have those wrist warmers!

Wie's dann aber so geht, kam ich erst mal nicht dazu - ein wenig hat mich auch die englische Anleitung abgeschreckt, denn ich bin jetzt nicht die routinierteste Strickerin. Als dann aber in der deutschen Mollie Makes vom letzten Herbst das Muster wieder abgedruckt war, diesmal logischerweise auf Deutsch, fand ich, das war wohl ein Zeichen, dass M2 ihre Stulpen bekommen soll. Also wurden Wolle und Stricknadeln besorgt, und ich konnte loslegen.

Lustigerweise habe ich die Stulpen zu einem sehr großen Teil auf einem Treffen mit Freunden gestrickt und kam mit drei Aufträgen für Eulenstulpen nach Hause ;)! Gut, bisher habe ich die auch noch nicht angefangen *hust* ... Jetzt weiß ich aber auf jeden Fall, was ich beim nächsten Anfall von Stricklust machen werde. Kennt ihr das auch, dass ihr phasenweise eine Handarbeit am liebsten macht, und ein anderes Mal bleibt das unbeachtet in der Ecke liegen? So ist das bei mir mit Stricken, Häkeln und Sticken - nur Nähen ist was, worauf ich immer Lust habe.

But as it is, I didn't get around to making them - I was a bit intimidated by the English instructions, too, since I'm not that well-versed as a knitter. But then the pattern was again published in the German Mollie Makes in last fall, this time in German, naturally - and so I thought that had to be a sign that M2 should get her wrist warmers. So I got the wool and knitting needles and got started.

Funny story: I knitted the wrist warmers on a weekend I spent with friends and got back home with three orders for owl wrist warmers ;)! Well, so far I didn't get started on them *cough* ... But now I know what I will do when the knitting bug bites me again, in any case. Do you know that feeling that you're going through phases where you're madly in love with a craft, and another time it's lying around in the corner and you totally forget about it? That's how it is with knitting, crochet and embroidery for me - only sewing is something I always feel the itch to do.

Ich finde die Stulpen sehr hübsch - das Einzige, was mich etwas stört, ist, dass die Eule nicht hundertprozentig mittig auf dem Handrücken sitzt (das sieht man hier auf den Bildern nicht, aber im angezogenen Zustand schon). Da ich eh ein paar Maschen mehr angeschlagen hatte als im Muster vorgegeben, würde ich die beim nächsten Mal etwas anders aufteilen, so dass das besser sitzt.

Ich denke, die nächste Eule wird braun, oder doch eine weiße Schneeeule? Ich sollte vermutlich meine Freunde fragen, was sie sich wünschen. Wenn ich mir die Bilder so ansehe, bekomme ich nämlich doch wieder Lust, meine Stricknadeln hervorzuholen :)!

The wrist warmers turned out quite cute, I think - the only thing I don't really like is that the owl isn't wholly in the middle of the back of the hand (which you can't really see on these pictures but which is noticeable when someone is wearing them). Since I had to cast on a few more stitches than the instructions called for anway, I would divide them a bit differently the next time so that's better centered.

I think the next owl will be brown, or a white snowy? I probably should ask my friends what they want. Looking at those picture, I actually feel like busting out my knitting needles :)!

Geschenke aus meiner Nähstube

An Weihnachten habe ich natürlich nicht nur die Knabbereien verschenkt, die ich euch im letzten Eintrag gezeigt habe, sondern auch einiges Selbstgenähtes und -gebasteltes - ich saß noch am Tag vor Heiligabend bis abends an der Nähmaschine! Zum Glück ist noch alles rechtzeitig fertig geworden. Heute zeige ich euch einen Teil davon - den Rest nicht, weil der thematisch irgendwie nicht so dazu passt, der kommt ein anderes Mal. Macht keinen Sinn? Macht nix. Muss nicht immer alles Sinn machen, was ich hier mache :).

For Christmas, I didn't only have the snacks I showed you in my last entry for presents, of course, but also some things sewn and made by me - I was sitting at my sewing machine until the evening before Christmas Eve! So happy that I could finish everything in time. Today I'm showing you the first part of those things - the rest will be posted another time since it doesn't fit thematically. That doesn't make sense? Too bad, but not everything I'm doing on here has to make sense :).

Hier seht ihr einen weiteren Eintrag in der Reihe "Meine Familie bringt mich dazu, die seltsamsten Sachen zu nähen". Es handelt sich um Gewichtmanschetten, die ich für meinen Vater genäht habe.

Mein Papa hat nämlich seit einiger Zeit große Probleme mit Hüfte und Knien - nun, er wird ja auch nicht jünger! Nächstes Jahr wird er siebzig ... Deswegen (also wegen den Hüftproblemen, nicht, weil er bald siebzig wird) hat er Krankengymnastik bekommen und dort auch Übungen gezeigt bekommen, die er zuhause machen soll. Und damit das auch was bringt, braucht man zusätzliche Gewichte.

Und wieso soll man sowas im Laden kaufen, wenn das die Tochter sicher auch nähen kann? So kam es, dass ich den Auftrag bekam, ihm Gewichtsmanschetten zu nähen. Das hat mich mal wieder einige Versuche gekostet, bis die Länge und die Biegsamkeit der gefüllten Manschetten hinkamen!

Gefüllt sind sie mit Vogelsand und werden mit Klettverschlüssen geschlossen. Sie wiegen je ein halbes Kilo. Der Stoff ist ein furchtbar abfärbender robuster Stoff unbestimmter Art, vermutlich Baumwolle. Insgesamt fallen sie wohl unter "nicht schön, aber praktisch" - das sollte aber für den Zweck sicher ausreichen, Schönheit wäre da eher fehl am Platz ;).

And here's another entry in the series "My family makes me sew the weirdest things". Those are weights I made for my father.

My dad has been suffering from severe pain in the hips and knees for a while now - well, he isn't getting any younger! Next year will be his seventieth birthday ... That's why he got physical therapy (because of the hip problems, not because he's almost seventy), and they also showed him some exercise to make at home. For those to be really effective, you need weights like this.

And why buy them in a shop when you have a daughter who can surely sew them? So I got commissioned to sew him weights. I need some tries again until the length and flexibility of the filled cuffs was right!

They are filled with bird sand and have velcro closures. Each is half a kilogram. The fabric is a robust but terribly bleeding fabric of unknown type, presumably cotton. All in all they are more of a "not pretty but handy" kind - but for their purpose, that might be the right thing, looking for prettiness might be a bit misplaced here ;).

Meine Mama bekam auch etwas zur Pflege ihrer Gelenke (ja, auch sie ist nicht mehr die Jüngste ...) - diese Kissen sind mit Rapssamen gefüllt. Sie lassen sich wie Kirschkernkissen oder Dinkelkissen im Backofen erwärmen, man kann mit ihnen aber auch kalt gut etwas Fingergymnastik machen. Die kleinen Kissen sind etwa handtellergroß, also ideal dazu, sie in der Hand zu halten und damit herumzuspielen. Das große ist etwa DIN A 5-groß, also eine gute Größe für den Rücken oder den Bauch.

My mom also got something for her joints (yes, she is also getting along a bit ...) - these pads are filled with rape seed. They can be heated in the oven like cherry pit or spelt pads but you can also use them to exercise your fingers when they are cold. The small pads are about the size of my palm, so they're the perfect size to hold them in your hand and play with them. The big one is about 10 x 20 cm, so it's a good size to put on your belly or back.

Ich kann nur sagen, zum Glück hat meine Nähmaschine noch durchgehalten, als ich an diesen Geschenken gearbeitet habe! Als ich letzte Woche nämlich wieder etwas nähen wollte, endete das mit Frust ... Und so muss ich wohl einsehen, dass nach etwa fünfzehn Jahren die Zeit meiner guten alten Brother gekommen ist. Ich hatte sie letztes Jahr schon einmal reparieren lassen, das hat aber nur eine kurze Zeit Ruhe erbracht. Sie jetzt noch mal wegzubringen, nur, um in ein, zwei Monaten wieder die gleichen Probleme zu haben ... Nein, darauf hatte ich keine Lust. Und so habe ich mir am Samstag ein paar Maschinen angeschaut und inzwischen eine neue bestellt. Jetzt warte ich ungeduldig auf den Anruf, dass mein neues Schätzchen angekommen ist, hach, ich freu mich schon so! Dann kann es bald wieder losgehen, ich habe dieses Jahr nämlich einiges vor!

Wenn ihr auch näht, erzählt doch mal, welche Maschine ihr verwendet? Auch wenn meine Entscheidung schon gefällt ist, bin ich neugierig ;).

I can only say, I'm lucky that my sewing machine still pulled through when I worked on these presents! Because when I wanted to sew something again last machine, I gave up in frustration at the end ... And so I have to face the fact that my dear trusty Brother machine has seen its best years after fifteen years, and it is time for a new one. I had it repaired last year but that only helped for a short time. I don't really feel like having it repaired again now, only to have the same problems in a month or two ... And so I looked at some sewing machines on Saturday and have ordered a new one now. I'm waiting inpatiently for the call that it has arrived, oh, I can't wait! Then I can start again, because I have quite some things I want to do this year!

Geschenke aus meiner Küche

Weihnachten ist jetzt ja schon ein Weilchen vorüber, aber endlich komme ich dazu, euch zu zeigen, was ich an Weihnachten als Mitbringsel aus meiner Küche verschenkt habe. Das war das erste Mal, dass ich für jeden aus meiner Familie und ein paar Freunde etwas Leckeres zu dem eigentlichen Geschenk dazu gemacht habe, aber das will ich definitiv in den kommenden Jahren so weiterführen! Bei den Beschenkten kam es auch gut an :).

So Christmas is over for a while now, and finally I get around to show you the presents from my kitchen I gave my family and friends for Christmas. It was the first time I did that for all of them in addition to the actual present but I definitely plan to make that a new tradition! They all thought that was a good idea, too :).

Ich habe für alle eine große Portion gebrannte Mandeln und Weihnachtsmandeln gemacht. Das Rezept für die gebrannten Mandeln habe ich ja bereits gepostet - ihr findet es hier. Die Weihnachtsmandeln habe ich auf Assatas Blog Neulich im Leben entdeckt und war sehr begeistert von der Kombination von dunkler Schokolade und gebrannten Mandeln. Die werde ich wohl in mein Weihnachtsrepertoire aufnehmen :).

I made a big batch of sugar-crusted almonds and Christmas almonds for everyone. I already posted my recipe for sugar-crusted almonds a while ago - you can read it here. I found the recipe for the Christmas almonds on Assata's blog Neulich im Leben (German only in the link) and loved the combination of dark chocolate and sugar-crusted almonds. I think they will become part of my Christmas repertoire now :).

An Weihnachten traf ich auch endlich mal wieder eine meiner ältesten Freundinnen - obwohl sie fast jedes Wochenende bei ihren Eltern in unserer Heimatstadt ist, haben wir uns über ein halbes Jahr nicht mehr gesehen. Daher hatte ich ihr nicht einmal was zum Geburtstag geschenkt ... Somit gab es für sie noch ein Zusatzgeschenk, nämlich scharfe Honignüsse. Das Rezept hierfür stammt von Connys Blog Seelenschmeichelei.

(Eigentlich wollte ich auch noch mehr Leuten Honignüsse schenken. Das geht nur leider nicht, wenn man die Hälfte verbrennen lässt. Tja.)

On Christmas, I finally got to see one of my oldest friends again - even though she spends almost every weekend at her parents' in our hometown, we didn't meet up for more than half a year. So I hadn't even given her a birthday present ... Therefore she got a bit of an extra - honey-roasted spicy nuts. The recipe for this you can find on Conny's blog Seelenschmeichelei (German link again, sorry).

(Originally I had planned to give those honey-roasted nuts to more people. That's not possible when you burn half of them, though. Bummer.)

Und zu guter Letzt zeige ich euch noch, was es an Weihnachten bei uns zum Tee gab (neben dem Plätzchenteller, natürlich) - einen Zimtzucker-Tannenbaum. Die Idee habe ich von einer Bekannten abgeguckt, die einen ähnlichen Baum zu einer Weihnachtsfeier mitgebracht hat - leider ist meiner nicht so ganz tannenbaum-mäßig geraten, wie ich es mir gewünscht hätte. Zu machen ist der Baum ganz einfach: Man braucht dazu ein Hefeteig-Grundrezept (wie zum Beispiel dieses hier). Den Hefeteig rollt man aus, bestreicht ihn mit einer Butter-Zucker-Zimt-Mischung (unserer hätte etwas mehr Füllung vertragen können), schneidet ihn in Rechtecke in etwa der gewünschten Baumgröße und legt diese aufeinander. Dann schneidet man unten áuf jeder Seite je ein Rechteck heraus, um den Stamm zu bekommen, und oben je ein Dreieck auf jeder Seite, um die Spitze herauszubilden. Den Rest schneidet man dann ein und dreht die Zweige so, dass sich die Schichten schön auffächern. Und dann wird das Ganze einfach wie ein Hefezopf gebacken.

Hmm, ich hoffe, diese Erklärung macht Sinn ... Wenn nicht, fragt ruhig einfach nach!

Habt ihr zu Weihnachten auch etwas Selbstgemachtes verschenkt?

And last, but not least, I want to show you what we had for tea on Christmas (in addition to a lot of Christmas cookies, of course) - a cinnamon roll Christmas tree. I stole the idea from an acquaintance who brought a similar tree to a Christmas party. Unfortunately mine didn't turn out quite as Christmas tree-like as I had wanted. It's really easy to make, though: You need a basic yeast dough recipe like this one. Roll out the dough and brush it with a butter-sugar-cinnamon mixture (ours could have used a little bit more of that), then cut it into rectangles of roughly the desired tree size and stack them onto each other. Then cut off two rectangles at the bottom, leaving the "stump" in the middle, and two triangles at the top so you get a tip. Now you cut "branches" from the rest and twist them so that you can see the different layers. Finally, just put it in the oven and bake it like a plaited yeast bread.

Huch, da ist mein letzter Eintrag schon wieder eine ganze Weile her - nein, diesmal war mein Computer nicht schuld, ich hatte einfach nur viel Stress und gar keine Zeit für nix, also auch nicht zum Bloggen :(. So Zeiten gibt es leider, und da ich ganz schlecht im Vorplanen und Sachen vorbereiten bin, hatte ich auch nichts vorbereitet, was ich "mal eben schnell" posten könnte. So ging auch mein erster Bloggeburtstag unbemerkt ins Land ... Aber ich hoffe mal, dass es jetzt wieder besser wird, und zum zweiten Bloggeburtstag überlege ich mir dann vielleicht was besonders Tolles ;).

Und in der Zwischenzeit war es mal wieder soweit: Post aus meiner Küche ging in eine neue Runde! Natürlich habe ich mir das nicht nehmen lassen - und da ich versuche, zumindest die PAMK-Sachen zeitnah zu bloggen (sonst ist das ja nicht meine Stärke - ihr wollt nicht wissen, was ich noch so in meinem Blog-Ordner rumliegen habe, das es einfach noch nicht auf den Blog geschafft hat ...), kann ich euch auch rechtzeitig zu Weihnachten ein paar tolle Plätzchenrezepte präsentieren! Das Motto war "Lasst uns froh und lecker sein", und ich kann euch verraten, jedes Mal, wenn ich das gelesen habe, hatte ich die nächsten paar Stunden erst mal wieder einen Ohrwurm ... Auf diese Runde habe ich mich besonders gefreut, denn die letztjährige Weihnachtsrunde war es, bei der ich erstmals auf PAMK aufmerksam wurde. So schließt sich quasi der Kreis!

Meine Tauschpartnerin war Marissa, die den Autorinnenblog Marissa Conrady schreibt. Von ihr bekam ich wunderbare Kokoscookies und einen aromatischen Weihnachtskaffee. Und das hier habe ich ihr alles eingepackt:

Uh-oh, it's been a while since my last post again! No, this time it wasn't my computer's fault, I just was very stressed and didn't have time for anything, which includes blogging :(. Unfortunately, there are times like that, and since I'm very bad at planning and preparing things, I didn't have anything I could post "just like that". This also meant that my blog's first birthday wasn't celebrated at all. But I hope it will be better now, and maybe I'll think of something really great to do for my second blog birthday ;).

In the meantime, it was time for Post aus meiner Küche (Mail from my kitchen) again! Of course I took part in that - and since I'm trying to blog the PAMK stuff within a short time (I'm not good at that either - you don't want to know about what I've still got lying around in my blog folder, waiting patiently to be posted!), I can show you some great recipes for Christmas cookies in time for Christmas! The theme for this round was "Lasst uns froh und lecker sein" (Let's be merry and tasty), and I can tell you that every time I read it, I was running around humming Christmas songs for the next few hours! I had been looking forward to this round a lot since it was last year's Christmas round that I first heard of PAMK. So things are coming full circle!

My swap partner was Marissa who has the writer's blog Marissa Conrady. I received wonderful coconur cookies and fragrant Christmas coffee from her. And this is what I sent to her:

Diese Honigplätzchen sind schon bei unserer letztjährigen Weihnachtsbäckerei erprobt und für gut befunden wurden. Sie sind sehr knusprig und durch den Honig und das Lebkuchengewürz, das in den Teig kommt, wunderbar aromatisch! Man kann auch wunderbar mit einem Strohhalm Löcher in den Teig stechen und sie dann als essbaren Schmuck aufhängen :).

These honey cookies were tried and tested in our last Christmas baking season already. They are very crunchy and wonderfully flavourful, thanks to the honey and gingerbread spice on the dough! You can also make holes into them prior to baking using a straw and use them to decorate your house :).

Ein weiterer Favorit vom letzten Jahr: Johannisbeerherzen. Dieses Gebäck ist durch das Ausstechen der Herzrahmen zwar eine Menge Arbeit, es ist sie aber definitiv wert! Wem das zu viel Arbeit ist, der kann auch einfach nur eine gerade Anzahl gleicher Plätzchen ausstechen und die mit der Johannisbeermarmelade aufeinander kleben - das machen wir immer mit den Teigresten oder wenn doch welche von den Herzrahmen kaputt gegangen sind.

Another favourite from last year: Red currant hearts. This one is quite a lot of work, actually, because of the heart frames, but it's definitely worth it! If you're feeling lazy, you can also just cut out the same number of same shapes and glue them together with the red currant jam - that's what we always do with the leftover dough or if some of the heart frames have broken.

Diese Kokoskugeln sind sehr schnell und einfach zu machen, das ist also auch was für alle, denen das ganze Ausstechen und Verzieren zu mühsam ist. Von denen habe ich gleich eine doppelte Portion gemacht - weg kommen die bei uns immer :)!

These coconut balls are very fast and easy to make, so if you're sick of the whole cutting shapes and decorating each cookie individually, this one is for you! I made two batches of these - they are always fast to go in our household :)!

Und zu guter Letzt gab es noch Schokobaisers. Die sind meine persönliche Überraschung - es war das einzige Rezept, das nicht vom Vorjahr erprobt ist, und ich habe sie eigentlich nur gemacht, weil von den Kokoskugeln Eiweiß übrig war. Eigentlich fand ich Baisers selbst nämlich immer nicht so arg lecker ... Diese Schokobaisers haben mich aber eines Besseren belehrt! Sie sind mir zwar nicht so schön gelungen, weil das Eiweiß nicht ganz so steif werden wollte, wie es sollte - man sollte laut Rezept mit einer Sterntülle schöne Spiralen spritzen, die wurden bei mir dann doch nur flache Kreise ... Geschmeckt haben sie aber mit dem leckeren Schoko-Nougat-Überzug trotzdem super! (Ich hoffe nur, sie sind halbwegs heil bei Marissa angekommen, sonderlich transportstabil sind sie nämlich leider nicht.)

And finally, I made chocolate meringues. They are my personal happy surprise in this round - it was the only recipe I hadn't tested the year before, and I only made them because there was egg white left over from the coconut balls. Quite frankly, I hadn't been a fan of meringue ... However, I now know that I was wrong, thanks to these! They didn't turn out quite so pretty because the egg whites didn't want to be as stiff as needed to pipe decorative little clouds of fluff but turned into flat circles ... But they still tasted great with the lovely chocolate nougat glaze! (I only hope that they arrive somewhat whole at Marissa's, because they are unfortunately a bit on the fragile side ...)

Verpackt habe ich das Ganze etwas schlichter, weil ich irgendwie nichts so wirklich Weihnachtliches in meiner Bastelschublade hatte. Daher habe ich mich an Weiß und Schwarz und ein ganz klein wenig Farbe durch die Bänder und Kordeln gehalten. Die Boxen und Becher die Homemade-Aufkleber und braunen Sterne sind von Kukuwaja. (Zum Glück kam die Lieferung noch rechtzeitig an, da hatte ich mal wieder zu sehr getrödelt.)

I kept the packaging rather simple since I somehow didn't have anything really Christmas-like in my stash. White and black and a bit of colour in the ribbons and twine looks nice and festive, too, though. The boxes and cups as well as the homemade stickers and brown stars are from Kukuwaja

. (Fortunately the delivery arrived in time - I had neglected making an order for a bit too long again ...)

So, und jetzt hätte ich nicht übel Lust, in der Küche zu verschwinden und gleich noch mal eine Runde zu backen. Zu schade, dass ich nicht alle Zutaten dafür im Haus habe ... Aber nächste Woche komme ich hoffentlich noch mal zu einer Runde Plätzchenbäckerei.

Leider musste ich einige Einträge zum Sew-Along ausfallen lassen, aus Mangel an Zeit und Fotos. Aber wenigstens zum Abschluss will ich dabei sein! Und so präsentiere ich euch ohne (allzu viele) Umschweife meinen Weihnachtsrock 2012.

Christmas Dress Sew Along, part 6: Christmas Dresses in action

Final of hearts for everyone who didn't finish until the 23. / Me in my Christmas dress and the tree.

Unfortunately, I had to skip a few posts for the Sew Along because of a lack of time and pictures. But at least in the finale I want to be there! And so, without (too) much ado, I present my Christmas skirt 2012.

Ich muss leider gestehen, dass ich nicht hundertprozentig zufrieden mit dem Rock bin. Der Jerseysaum will an einigen Stellen nicht glatt liegen, und vor allem habe ich festgestellt, dass der Rock durch die enge Form zwar schön die Beine betont - leider aber auch etwas anderes, nämlich meine absolute Problemzone, meinen dicken Bauch. Daher werde ich auch niemals die Fotos in Seitenansicht zeigen ...

Ich bin aber trotzdem froh, dass ich ihn genäht habe. Schön ist er auf alle Fälle, er wird sich wohl nur eher nicht zum Lieblingsstück entwickeln. Und ich konnte ein lange geplantes Projekt von meiner Liste streichen, das ist auch was wert.

Insgesamt hat mir der Sew-Along Spaß gemacht, auch wenn es teilweise etwas hopplahopp und stressig war. Hoffentlich gibt es im nächsten Jahr wieder einen, an dem ich dann mit etwas mehr Zeit und Muße teilnehmen kann! Und durch die vielen schönen Bilder habe ich richtig Lust bekommen, mir im nächsten Jahr mal zur Abwechslung ein paar Kleider zu nähen.

I have to admit, sadly, that I'm not totally happy with the skirt. The Jersey hem does not want to stay flat in some parts, and most of all, I had to notice that while the tight fit makes nice legs, it also emphasizes something else - that is, my absolute problem area, my big belly. Therefore, I'll never show anyone the pictures showing me from the side ...

Nevertheless, I'm happy I've done it. The skirt is pretty in any case, it just won't become one of my favourites. And I could strike a project planned for a long time from my list, that's also something good.

Overall, I enjoyed the Sew Along even if it was somewhat improvised and stressful in parts. Hopefully, there will be one again next year in which I can take part with some more time and leisure. And thanks to the many beautiful pictures, I really feel like sewing some dresses next year for a change.

DIY: Geschenkgutschein-Hülle

Morgen ist es schon so weit! Ich habe heute noch die letzten Vorbereitungen abgeschlossen und bin ganz froh, dass einiges noch geklappt hat. Unter anderem wurde mein Weihnachtskleid-Sew-Along-Rock fertig - davon gibt es aber noch keine Bilder, also wird das nach Weihnachten nachgeholt.

Unter anderem entstand heute noch schnell diese kleine Geschenkgutschein-Hülle. Ich finde die Idee ganz witzig und bin froh, dass es halbwegs so geklappt hat, wie ich mir das vorgestellt habe.

Tomorrow the wait is over! Today I finished my last preparations and I'm pretty happy that some things worked out in the end. Among others, I finished my Christmas Dress Sew-Along skirt - I couldn't take pictures yet, though, so I'll catch up on that after Christmas.

Among others, I made this little gift certificate sleeve today. I think the idea is quite funny and I'm happy it turned out more or less as I imagined it.

Man braucht:
* einen Reißverschluss (beliebige Länge - ich habe den kürzesten genommen, den ich hatte)
* Tonkarton
* einen Gutschein
* nach Wunsch Verzierungen (ich habe die Hülle schlicht gehalten, aber man kann sich sicher mit Washi-Tape und Stempeln usw. daran austoben, wenn man möchte)

Zuerst habe ich den Karton für Rück- und Vorderseite zugeschnitten. Dazu habe ich einfach eine Weihnachtskarte als Vorlage genommen, damit die Größe etwa hinkommt.

Anschließend habe ich auf dem Karton für die Vorderseite den Reißverschluss etwa so drapiert, wie ich mir die Öffnung der Hülle vorgestellt habe. Den Verlauf habe ich grob auf dem Karton aufgezeichnet und ihn dann dementsprechend zugeschnitten. Dadurch bekam ich zwei Teile, einmal für links und einmal für rechts. Der dritte Teil, wo die Öffnung sein sollte, ist überflüssig und kommt weg.

You'll need:
* a zipper (of any length - I took the shortest I had)
* construction paper
* a gift certificate
* decorations, if you want (I kept the sleeve simple but you could go nuts with washi tape and stamps if you like)

First, I cut the paper for the back and front. I simply traced it with another Christmas card to make sure it was the right size.

Then I placed the zipper on it like I wanted the opening to look like and marked the course of the zipper with pencil, cutting it out along the lines. You now have two parts, one for the left and one for the right side. The third part we won't need any more - that's where the opening will be.

Mit der Nähmaschine wird nun der Reißverschluss an die beiden Stücke der Vorderseite angenäht und dann das Ganze auf der Rückseite festgenäht. Überstehende Stücke abschneiden, den Gutschein in die Hülle schieben - et voilà!

Now you sew the zipper to the two parts of the front with the sewing machine and then sew the whole thing to the back. Cut off everything protruding at the edges and insert your gift certificate in the sleeve - voilà!

Ich finde die Idee besonders witzig für Gutscheine für etwas Genähtes, wie hier :). (Keine Sorge, die Beschenkte weiß ohnehin, was sie bekommt - aber es ist auch extrem unwahrscheinlich, dass sie sich hierher verirrt *g*.)

I think the idea is quite cute especially for gift certificates for something sewn by you, like this one :). (Don't worry, the person who gets this knows what she gets anyway - but it's extremely unlikely she'll find this, too *grin*.)

Weihnachtskleid-Sew-Along, Woche 2

Letzte Woche erfuhr ich auf dem Blog von Ms Fisher Goes Handmade, dass es dieses Jahr einen Weihnachtskleid-Sew-Along gibt (letztes Jahr wohl auch schon, aber davon habe ich nichts mitbekommen ;)). Der Sew-Along war schon im Gange, und ich war schon enttäuscht - bei einem Sew-Along wollte ich immer schon mitmachen, und was Nettes bis Weihnachten nähen? Kann so verkehrt nicht sein!

Dann entdeckte ich aber in der heutigen Linksammlung, dass offenbar Quereinsteiger immer noch willkommen sind. Yay! Und damit stand fest, womit ich mich heute beschäftige und was ich heute Abend poste :).

Last week I learned on the blog of Ms Fisher Goes Handmade that there is a Christmas dress sew-along for this year (there seems to have been one last year, too, but I didn't hear anything about it then ;)). The sew-along was already up and running, and I was pretty disappointed - I always wanted to take part in a sew-along, and sewing something nice for Christmas? That can't be wrong!

However, today I learned in the link party that you could still join. Yay! And so I knew what to do today and what to post about in the evening :).

Christmas dress sew-along part 2: Let's start!
I already started, it will be great! / I hope my fabric will arrive tomorrow ... / I decided to take this pattern, have a look! / I think this pattern doesn't suit me after all - what do you think?

Meine Entscheidung für einen Schnitt und einen Stoff fiel recht schnell - ehrlich gesagt benutze ich den Sew-Along, um einen schon lange geplanten Rock, für den ich auch schon seit Jahren den Stoff besitze, endlich mal zu nähen. Und zwar soll es ein Fishtail-Skirt werden.

Vor einigen Jahren kaufte sich meine Mama nämlich so einen. Wir haben einen sehr unterschiedlichen Klamottengeschmack (sie liebt Hosen, ich Röcke, ihre Farben sind braun, rot und andere Naturfarben, meine sind Blautöne, Dunkelgrün und Dunkelrot und viele Muster, usw. ...), aber bei diesem Rock wusste ich sofort: So einen will ich auch! Wenig später fiel mir dann im Stoffladen etwas Stoff in die Hände, der perfekt dafür war. Tja, und dann landeten der Stoff und die Idee in der Kiste und blieben da bis heute ...

I quickly decided on a pattern and fabric - let's be honest, I'm using the sew-along to finally sew a skirt I had been planning for a long time and for which I have had the fabric since years. It will be a fishtail skirt.

That's because my Mama bought such a skirt some years ago. We have a very different taste in clothes (she loves trousers, I love skirts, her colours are brown, red and other nature colours, mine are blues, dark green and red and lots of patterns, etc.) but with this skirt I knew at once: I want one, too! A little bit later, I happened on some fabric which would be perfect for it, too. And then the fabric and the idea were put into a box and stayed there until today ...

Ich bin ja gut drin, mir Sachen immer selber zusammen zu basteln, aber ganz ohne Schnitt geht es hier schon nicht. Daher habe ich gesucht und wurde fündig bei Natron & Soda. Was mir bei den Anleitungen dort gut gefällt (soweit ich es vom Lesen her beurteilen kann - das ist das erste Mal, dass ich danach nähe und mir nicht nur Inspiration hole), ist, dass schön erklärt wird, wie man den Schnitt an seine Maße/Bedürfnisse anpasst.

Also habe ich erst mal in mein Ideen-Büchlein eine Skizze gemacht und alle Maße für mich berechnet:

I am very good in putting things together my way but I didn't think I could do this completely without a pattern. Therefore, I looked for one online and found one on Natron & Soda. I like about their instructions/patterns (as far as I can tell from reading - this is the first time I will actually use one and not just get some inspiration from the site) that they explain very well how adjust the pattern to your size/needs.

So I first made a sketch in my idea notebook and calculated all measurements for me:

And so that you have something to laugh: That's what my design sketches look like.

(Wie man vielleicht erkennt, schwanke ich noch, was den Verschluss/Bund angeht. Nun, das kann ich mir noch ein Weilchen überlegen.)

Dann ging es daran, den Schnitt zu konstruieren. Passendes Kopierpapier oder so hatte ich natürlich nicht, aber wozu ist man erfinderisch? Mit Uhu und Geduld und Spucke bastelte ich mir aus normalem Papier ausreichend große Vorlagen zusammen.

(As you can probably tell, I'm still unsure how to do the fastening/waistband. Well, I have some time left to decide.)

Next I had to construct the pattern. Of course I didn't have suitable copy paper or something but there's always a way. I just put together patterns in the right size with some glue and normal printer paper.

Und so sah das Endergebnis dann aus: Bereit zum Zuschneiden!

And that was the final result: Ready for cutting!

Das muss allerdings noch etwas warten, denn nachdem der Stoff, den ich gestern gewaschen hatte, trocken war, wollte ich M2 etwas Gutes tun und dafür sorgen, dass sie heute Abend Vorhänge hat, um ihr Zimmer abzudunkeln. Zuschnitt und mehr kommt also nächste Woche.

(Und nachdem ich die Vorhänge fertig hatte, stellten wir fest, dass ich die falschen Gardinendinger gekauft habe - zu groß. Fail.)

That will have to wait a bit, though, since I wanted to do something nice for M2 after the fabric I washed yesterday had dried: Make sure she has curtains this evening to darken her room. Cutting and more will follow next week.

(And after I had finished the curtains, we realised that I had bought the wrong curtain thingies - too big. Fail.)
